What it does

Sodium stearoyl glutamate is made from glutamic acid (an amino acid produced by fermentation) and stearic acid. It holds oil and water together in lotions and sunscreens and is popular in natural-positioned and Japanese brands.

CosIng lists it as emulsifying, cleansing and skin and hair conditioning. The stearic acid used for cosmetics is almost always plant-derived, so it affects none of the six checks.
