What it does

Sodium PCA (sodium pyrrolidone carboxylate) is the salt of an amino acid derivative that skin makes itself. Brands add it to moisturisers, toners and conditioners because it pulls water into the upper skin and hair.

CosIng lists it as humectant, antistatic and skin and hair conditioning. It is made by fermentation or synthesis from glutamic acid and affects none of the six checks.
