What it does

Sodium gluconate is made by fermenting glucose. It grabs hold of calcium, iron and other metal ions in water so they do not cloud the formula or weaken the preservative; brands use it as a plant-based alternative to EDTA.

CosIng lists it as chelating and skin conditioning. It is plant-derived and affects none of the six checks.
