What it does

Propanediol is 1,3-propanediol, usually made by fermenting corn sugar. It dissolves plant extracts and preservatives, helps a product feel less sticky and holds water at the skin surface. Brands often use it in place of propylene glycol. CosIng lists it as solvent and viscosity controlling.

It is plant-derived and affects none of the six checks; the alcohol-free check ignores glycols.
