What it does

Pentylene glycol is a small glycol made from corn cobs or sugar cane bagasse, or synthetically. It holds water at the skin surface, dissolves extracts and, at a few percent, makes life harder for microbes so brands can use less preservative. CosIng lists it as skin conditioning and solvent.

It affects none of the six checks; the alcohol-free check ignores glycols.
