What it does

Methylisothiazolinone (MI) stops bacteria and mould growing in water-based products. It was once common in leave-on creams and wipes; since 2017 the EU allows it only in rinse-off products such as shampoo and shower gel, at a low maximum concentration. CosIng lists it in Annex V as a preservative.

It is synthetic and affects none of the six checks.
