What it does

Glycol distearate is a waxy ester of ethylene glycol and stearic acid. Dispersed as tiny flakes it scatters light, turning a clear shampoo into a pearly white one; it also adds slip. CosIng lists it as opacifying, emollient and viscosity controlling.

The stearic acid can be of plant or animal origin, though most cosmetic supply is plant-based. It affects none of the six checks.
