What it does

Glycerin (glycerol) is one of the most common moisturising ingredients. It pulls water from the air and from deeper skin layers into the surface, which is why it sits in so many moisturisers, cleansers and hand creams.

It can be made from vegetable oils, from animal fat, or synthetically, and the label does not say which. That is why glycerin alone makes the vegan check say not sure unless the brand marks the product as vegan.
