What it does

Behentrimonium chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound with a long behenyl tail, which makes it heavier and more softening than cetrimonium chloride. Hair masks, deep conditioners and detanglers rely on it. CosIng lists it as antistatic, hair conditioning and preservative.

The behenyl chain is usually from rapeseed oil but can be animal-derived, and the label does not say, so on its own it leaves the vegan answer at not sure.
