What it does

Ascorbyl palmitate joins vitamin C (ascorbic acid) to palmitic acid so it dissolves in oils. Brands add it mainly as an antioxidant that slows the oils and butters in a cream from oxidising, which keeps the product fresh for longer.

CosIng lists it as antioxidant. Palmitic acid is usually taken from palm oil but can come from animal fat, and the label does not say which, so the vegan check says not sure unless the product is marked vegan. It affects none of the other five checks.
