What it does
Alcohol on a label means ethanol, the same alcohol as in wine, usually made by fermenting sugar. It dissolves fragrance and plant extracts, thins a product, helps it dry fast and gives a cool, tight feel. It is common in perfumes, toners, aftershaves, hand gels and hair sprays. CosIng lists it as antimicrobial, astringent and solvent.
It is the ingredient the alcohol-free check looks for, so the answer is no. Alcohol Denat is the same thing with a bitter additive; fatty alcohols such as Cetearyl Alcohol are unrelated waxes.
